Affected dogs are exposed to unneutralized bile salts, resulting in greater mucin secretion, inflammation (cholecystitis) and possible rupture of the gallbladder. Inflammation (cholecystitis) can be very painful and can be fatal in some cases. Clinical signs are non specific and include abdominal pain, vomiting, loss of appetite, jaundice, anorexia, fever, diarrhoea and bloating.
